Introduction

The Department of Political Science feels honoured and delighted to welcome you to its 1st Inter-religious Conference,‘Building Bridges: Negotiating the Basis For Interreligious Harmony ‘to be held on March 27-29, 2017 at Pearl Continental Hotel, Lahore Pakistan. The conference is a collaborative effort with Berkley Center for Religion, Peace and World Affairs & Intersection International.

Keeping in view the growing need of interfaith harmony and urge for its realisation in the current socio-political scenario, The University of Management and Technology (UMT) intends to provide a platform for local as well as foreign delegates, from across the world and from diverse setting to interact in a conducive environment on a broad range of issue challenging interfaith harmony. The organisers of the conference believe that interfaith harmony is a way forward signifying a peaceful co-existence among practitioners of various religious beliefs, aimed at eliminating the possibility of discord, and respecting the religious sensibilities of each and every religion.  

The dynamics of inter faith dialogue are bound to be complex and difficult. None the less it will continue to remain a desirable objectives. In an attempt to facilitate the dialogue, our local and foreign dignitaries will discuss a range of issues in the conference that include: Opportunities and Risks Facing Minorities in Pakistan, Religion Based Animosity and Conflict Resolution, Gender, Identity , Religion and the Law, Islamophobia and Anti-Muslim Hatred:Causes and Remedies, Deconstructing Religious Fundamentalism : Militarism, Global Refugee Crisis and Peacebuilding. We also expect to provide numerous opportunities for informal networking.
